It's a very important moment for us. England/Britain was going through a very liberal (non-US meaning) period from about 1750 through to about 1850. This occasion demonstrated the crown's forgiveness, or better, acceptance of our clan. We were the first official (European) genocide victims, one quote of the Massacre at Glencoe says the McDonalds were treated as if they were McGregors. So it was quite a turning point, even if Scott had set the pattern.
Should also make a quick apology noting that I just realized that Matt did not make an absolute statement after rereading the post.
