Is it just me or is $199.00 a ridiculous amount of money for a velvet vest?

Now, I truly believe that the laborer is worthy of his hire, as the Scriptures say, but caveat emptor.

I'm sure the quality is good, just as I am sure that a $5000 Armani suit is better than my $300 JCPenney suit...but I bought the Penney suit all the same.

There must be a market gap in here somewhere!

    It's not just you, preacher.

That's one reason why this board is so great. When someone happens on a great deal - like those Eton jackets - he shares that information. Most of us spend time searching for deals, so lots of them get posted here.

    That was fun

It's been a long time since I encountered an eBay seller this uncommunicative: two messages and no response to either. That's poor.

However, it seems your jacket(s) should eventually arrive. Mine did so today. Product appears as advertised. What follows is for the sake of caveat emptor for other members.

I'm a little soured by the experience with this vendor and not certain if I would buy from her again. The rundown:

    • Dec. 9th - used the "Buy Now" option to scoop up two jackets
    • Dec. 10th - received revised invoice (I requested) for the order since she indicated discounts for multi-item purchases; saved about $5; paid invoice electronically that same morning
    • Dec. 16th - sent dunning e-mail to her since nothing had arrived
    • Dec. 17th - product not shipped until a full week after payment was made per the postage label on the box
    • Dec. 19th - second dunning e-mail sent to seller because I didn't know the above
    • Dec. 20th - product received

She stated on the auction item description "I'm not a big venture so I can't get to the Post Office each day, often only a couple of times a week so NO RUSH ORDERS PLEASE ... but rest assured I will ship ASAP (and I'm sure most people will be pleased at the speed)..."

Almost two weeks to get an item from one side of NY state to another is a bit much. Am I being picky? Has the NY metro area finally made me a demanding, obnoxious, never-satisfied consumer?

I don't think so. Consider: I won a "Kilter" from someone in California on Dec. 11th, paid for it the same day and received it on the 17th. Turnaround six days. Ditto with Stillwater Kilts for a NightStalker on another auction. That was actually slow for them since they're usually a three-day turnaround in my experience.

I'm debating on whether my feedback for her will be negative or neutral. I leaning to neutral (it's Christmas and I'm not Scrooge): "product as advertised but shipping practice poor."

Sorry for the quasi-rant but I figured the update might be worthwhile for others awaiting delivery amidst the vendor's apparent love of silence.

And now to more enjoyable pursuits...need to see if I can score some buttons from "The Scottish Lion" to make one of the jackets a little more kilt-worthy for New Year's. :-)

I received my Jacket's this morning (or late last night as they were on my door step when I left for work). I'll review the jacket first and then contribute my encouragement to others to blast this seller with negative feedback.

The jacket is slightly past lovingly used as stated on the auction but the main wear is on the tips of the satin lapel and the bottom tips of the front. Mostly a touch up with a sharpie and a shave to remove the fuzz and it will be fine for most wear. I wouldn't wear it to the White House but to a fancy dinner with my Wife would be fine as from a distance it looks great but upclose you notice the wear points. I think it will fall at just the right length to wear with a USA Casual (verify that tonight ) but would be perfect with a Stillwater (hmmmmm...wear to find one of those)

It has 2 buttons on the front on both sides. Each sleeve has one button. The only button hole is on the lapel for a flower. This is perfect for switching the buttons.

All in all it was worth $35 since I didn't have to have it by Christmas.

Now, the seller... The ad was slightly mis-leading on the condition of the jacket but for the price it's probably reasonable, I'm not as concerned about this. My entire issue is about the lack of communication from the seller. I sent several emails and the only response was Invoice's or How-To-Pay instructions, or some other auto-generated acknowledgement of the transaction. Never were my questions answered until I sent my last email stating that on Monday (yesterday) I would be within my rights as a buyer to file an "Item not received" dispute with Ebay and Paypal. Amazingly, She responded with "You have payed and your item is supposed to be delivered Tuesday".

I understand people are busy around the holiday's but part of the integrity of Ebay is hinged on those who participate in the transactions behaving professionally and expeditiously. This vendor apparently has the impression that she does not have to adhere to common business curtousies because she's on ebay. The only recorse a buyer has is to tell others what their real experience was and rate the feedback accordingly. In my opinion, the difference between a positive and a negative was an email. Hopefully the next buyer who asks her a question will get a response.

    Eh, that would be me.
    And no, no responses yet.
    Bah humbug.
Glad to know the jackets do actually arrive....

I got mine a couple of days ago. It's a bit small for a 46R but it's in very good condition and looks great. It DID take forever and a day, but I was so busy at work I didn't have time to think about it. If I lose 10-15 pounds this should fit perfectly so now I have motivation.
