Since when does retirement qualify as further action? I'm thinking that McClard may find it easier to just move on. Besides that, a retirement, while perhaps not forced, can be HIGHLY reccomended.

Sorry, I mistook your reference to be toward Nathan getting a nice settlement. I agree completely that McClard needs to be elsewhere. My apologies.

You know, I hate to see how many of you are dumping on this principal. Granted that the guy did ONE thing that cheesed you off...what if this guy is otherwise a great administrator and educator...would you want his yarbles on a stick knowing the sorry state of education in most school districts in this country? I've said it before: I know a lot of school administrators and this sort of thing is exactly what they say makes their jobs more difficult than is necessary...they spend more time "putting out fires", as one of them once said, than concentrating on EDUCATING the kids.
No matter what else this guy had done, he's going to be remembered for this. How'd you like it if no matter how much you did right all you were remembered for is the time you screwed up? I've heard all of this talk about how small minded the principal and school board are...all of this irrrational crap about "beaurocrats" and how they ruin life and the system...I expect that I'd be hard pressed to find anyone who actually knows any of these people and knows how they actually think or handle their responsibilities. Perhaps the Warmacks are the only folks who have had any previous contact with Mr. McLard and the school administration. If McLard and the school board didn't come out in the press and try to present "their side of the story", it's because they knew damn well that the best course of action open to them was to keep their mouths shut and seek a resolution to the issue, not to spout off and further muddy the waters. You can't blame them or villify them for that...it was the common sense thing for them to do and, in the end, a resolution was reached. Who said earlier on that the best victory was the one that was achieved with the fewest casualties on both sides?
Glad to see that the kid can wear his kilt but let's quit dumping on these people who have been designated as "the opposition"...it's unfair and unnecessary no matter how much "fun" it is. This "us versus them" stuff is really counterproductive. Let's see some of that civility that everyone complains is lacking in our society these days.

You make a good point, we don't know anything from first hand experience, but Mr. McClard hasn't exactly given us any evidence that we're wrong either. Maybe he couldn't make any comment for legal reasons, and maybe he's been a model and inspirational administrator previously. But then again, he could have handled this with Nathan and his parents and we would have never heard about it. I too have known a lot of school administrators, some of whom were unfairly branded by a mistake or even some unfortunate circumstance beyond their control. I have no desire to castigate Mr. McClard further, but I figure that if he walks like a duck and looks like a duck and quacks like a duck he probably is a duck.

I can think of a lot of other things worse than "clown" that he might have said. Once again, none of us were there and we don't know what all the circumstances are. When I was in high school, the administrators had all they could do keeping the students from drinking and getting high at dances...they (the administrators) still have a responsibility to send the kids home in one piece and sometimes it isn't easy. Who knows what was going on in his mind...he's not responsible to any of us so we shouldn't expect an expalination. He obviously could have skipped the "clown" bit but he didn't - engage brain before opening mouth - how many times have any of us blurted out something that we should have kept to sourselves? He did apologize....was it not as abject an apology as you think was appropriate? Sorry, it's done and that's all you get.
He calls young Warmack a "clown", you call him a "jackass". Even?

Unfortunately perception is reality in a situation like this.

Seems to me like he set a dandy himself!

Naaaaah.... This is just symptomatic of a general personality trait.
From what I read, it was Anderson that apologized. Am I wrong?

McClard did not apologize, the school board did. Having had plenty of run-ins with "administrators" I'd advise Nathan to watch his back.

It would seem that McClards name was in fact included in the body of the apology letter... so I guess he figures into the equation.
