I stopped worrying how other people wore their hair a long time ago!

    Question

Why shave your head? why not instead let your hair grow, so that you can donate it after a year to the Locks Of Love? When my dad got cancer for the second time my sister let her hair grow and donated it to said group. They made a very nice RED wig from her donation.

Personally, I think that would be a much better idea than shaving your head. On the other hand, I could understand the shaved head thing if someone in your immediate family lost their hair to cancer and you wanted them to feel better about being bald. I've had family that did that.

Very nicely done, Brian! and the devilish smile all the way thru shows you were having a fair share of fun during the shaving to boot!

Now there is a constructive idea, and a good one at that!

There is a song out by the group Rascal Flatts called "Skin" that deals with that very subject. In the song, a teenage girl has to undergo treatments that cause her hair to fall out and her trying to deal with it. She has a date for the prom and when he shows up he has shaved his head bald so she feels less out of place. A rather touching song.

    That's what the point is!

Donating hair is fine....my wife has done that, but that doesn't fund cancer research. What I did was a FUNDRAISER FOR CANCER RESEARCH. Now if that's not good in your eyes, so be it.

Thanks for all the support guys. You make me feel so warm and fuzzy inside.

Next time I won't share my personal life.

Y'know, you could do both. Donate the hair for wigs and shave the head for the donations for research. Brian, regardless, I think ya done good.

This is a fantastic charity event. As for growing your hair for locks of love, that is fine also, but instead of posting differing opinions on which is better, why not be a little supportive, or else clam up.

Let it be known that over the last 6 years, over USD12 million has been raised by these events worldwide. My niece is almost 5 years old, and 3 years ago was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a particularly nasty childhood cancer. These types of fund raising events generate the cash needed to continue researching a cure for childhood cancers. The fact that my niece will see her 5th birthday and be cancer free for almost 3 years is reason enough to support these charities...

Here's to you Avonlea22! I raise my glass to you for your bravery and charity! Sláinte!
