There are strip clubs and there are strip clubs... I once went to one with some friends in Fargo ND that was a place for the whole family. The front was a Pizza place complete with a video arcade for the kids. If you went through to the back you were in the strip club. Kinda odd to see familys out for a pizza with dads moving between the two rooms...

I think I'd want to know more...

Here's a handy tip. Why waste a whole dollar when foreign currency is worth so much less? Head down to your local currency exchange and convert $10 into Nuevo Pesos or even better, Sloveian Tolars (They got bills that are worth ~5 cents). You can give away bills all night and still have enough left over to buy yourself a new kilt.

I went kilted to just such an occasion three weeks ago, besides
throwing a bunch of money away, it went fine. The girls loved it.
Just remember to have your money at the ready, mine was still
in my sporran, so you can imagine what the first girl thought I was
doing while I was digging for my bills.

I got a coupe "freebies" while wearing a kilt to a strip bar. As far a fights, I usually don't have a problem with that in the first place. Maybe it's the height, maybe I look too much like a tough guy in a kilt. I think you should do it at least once just for the experience. Strip clubs cost $$ either way, but you'll probably get special discounts while kilted.

I am not one to frequent such establishments and am not sure how I might be received.

Is this, perhaps, a really bad idea?
    Hi,

Your closing question seems to have been interpreted by previous posters as, should you go wearing a kilt. Somehow, I have a different interpretation, which is:is it a really bad idea to go at all.

You state that you are not one to frequent such establishments and I would strongly believe, neither is your wife. Based on the replies so far, will the attentions that you in a kilt can expect to recieve, be upsetting to your wife? Further, given your vocation, would an unfortunate incident, albeit unprovked by you, result in unwanted noteriety?

My apologies if my interpretation is way wide of the mark and I hope I was not offensive.

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice but in practice there is.

I'll have to say that this is one angle not well covered here thusfar. Be sure that you are very well aware of your wife's reactions to the attention, becuase you will get it. I'm sure you know when she has had enough...and from there I'll leave it up to you.

It goes without saying that you should talk it over with your wife before you make any decision. I will tell you that your wife will also receive extra attention at the club.

As I said before, I've been in stip clubs all over the world and worn many different types of clothing in them. It doesn't have anything to do with what you're wearing, if some half-wit decides to start a fight he's going to do it. You have to be ready for it whether you're wearing a kilt, a Class "A" uniform or a set of fatigues, (BDUs today).

This is just a small life lesson in case you get into a situation and it NEEDS to be handled...

Your attitude means a lot as well but I'll tell you what, if some idiot decides to give you a hard time because of what you choose to wear make sure that it makes you extremely angry that he's trying to ruin your evening and angry enough so that you ultimately ruin his evening. Where did he get the idea that he had a right to try and ruin your evening? The idiot needs to be hurt badly enough so that he will never pick a fight with anyone again and especially a man in a kilt. It definately won't be the first time that a kilted braveheart taught a lesson to a drunk.

I especially liked the great big guys that had a great big chip on their shoulders, I also knew that they had extremely bad knees. Any big men out there that have good knees? I didn't think so. I've had big men back down simply because I told them I was going after their knees and they'd never walk again or at least they'd never walk out of the bar on their own.

Besides, running away in a kilt is so much better than running in jeans...lol!

    Chris.

Wow, thanks for all the replies. I've been without internet for a few days so I need dto catch up.

    1. I was asking if it was a good idea to wear the kilt, not if it was a good idea to go at all. My wife informed me that we were going, so I really didn't have a choice in that.

    2. It's out of state, so bumping into someone who knows me or, heaven forbid, a former student, is highly unlikely. That's the reason I've never gone to the local Hooters. Not that I have anything against the place, I just don't want to run the risk of seeing one of my students in short shorts.

    3. This is apparently a very nice establishment. Not a dive or other sketchy type of joint. I've been in those places before and don't want to do that again regardless of uniform.

Thanks for all the comments. I think it's time to let this thread drift off into the ether...If the trip proves interesting I'll post again.
