Nope not mine. It take me about 15 minutes to get dressed. I'm
not near as good as Matt Newsome. He can pleat his standing up!

The sporran was made by a friend. Elk hide with a custom bronze cast celtic pattern button.

Awsome pics. The question remains how long did it take you to get all the pleats correct. I think you need to start a new tread on how to do it. It may exsist if anyone knows the link I would appreciate.

I think you are always going to have that "big gut, big butt" look to a certain degree. Alot depends on how small you make you "pockets"
and how tight you tuck everything in!

Its been my experience that its just experimenting. I don't think there is
really any wrong way to wear the great kilt.

Great pics, Dave! As someone who's "lived" in a belted plaid for numerous weekends, I can vouch for the versatility. Your pleats look way better than mine ever do, though...!

Someone mentioned the occasionally bulky appearance of the great kilt. Many guys are simply using too much fabric! You only need 4-5 yards length of doublewidth tartan for a plaid. The "whole nine yards" misunderstanding derives from that length of SINGLE-width tartan (the only way it was loomed in the old days) which is cut in half and sewn lengthwise to result in a 4.5 yard DOUBLE-width great kilt.

Aye Brian,

Now I haven't had the guts to cut this clothe in half and sew it back together!

Mine is only alittle over 4 yards and thats more than enough to work with.
I do pleat mine on the ground/bed.

I really like the tartan, I didn't get it because of the movie. I simply liked
the somewhat muted colors.

Because they're wearing 8 yards of double-wide tartan, instead of four yards of double-wide tartan.

They've got twice as much cloth on as they should.

I agree with what you and Brian stated. If you think of the yardage in feet,
a 4-5 yard clothe is 12-15 feet, now that is plenty to work with. Nine yards, 27 feet!

Thanks for posting the photos of the great kilt it looks fantastic , I've just purchased the DVD Rob Roy and now I'm interested in getting a great kilt and I've found some used black leather shoes that I can re fit with brass buckles. This is something I want to get for next winter here in Japan so when I put the outfit together I'll post some photos of it. Also in Nov I'm heading down to good ole NZ ( middle earth ) for two weeks to meet up with family and my kilt wearing Jacobite friends in NZ. One of my mates in NZ was lucky enough to purchase 7 boxes of Jacobite uniforms & patterns from the BBC as they were filming Kidnapped in NZ so I'm looking forward to my trip back home.
