You can wear any kilt with a tartan and people will think:
    1. He is celebrating his heritage
    2. He is on his way to a special event like a party
    3. He is part of some show and is going there or returning
    4. It's a special Celtic holiday
    5. He misplaced his bagpipes

However, you wear a UK original and you are screaming rebellion. I mean, what are people supposed to think? I think it's obvious that you are just out having a good casual time in a kilt.

    That's why I like them.

I have always thought of myself as a "rebel without a cause" and now that I'm 50 I have a cause to rebel about. I'm happy.

Another point about a traditional tartan kilt is that you can pick just about any tartan and dress as casual or as formal as you want with the same kilt. I think you could project a "rebellious look" in a tartan as well.

On the other hand, with the Utilikilt, you are pretty much limited to casual, or in some cases "business casual." For instance, with a Mocker or Original in solid color, you could wear a shirt, a tie, and some knee lenght socks. But that's about it.

On hot, humid days, I wear my tartans with a polo, colored crew socks, and sneakers - very casual. However, any one of them is equally at home with an Argyll jacket, tie, kilt hose, dress sporran, and sgian dubh.
