On July 31st it will be one year since I bought my first kilt (a black denim UK). I now own 19 kilts, making me a 1.5 kilt-a-month addict and safely nestled midway between Hamish and Riverkilt's rate of acquisition. (I used to own more dress trousers than this but the stock is diminishing as I give them away to needy musician friends.) As I enter my second kilted year I'm sure the growth rate of my collection will decline. Though I freely admit to having an addictive personality, I find I can taper off or curtail former addictions with no cravings. Just lucky, I guess.
Here's another perspective: Though I didn't appreciate it at the time, being trousered was a form of bondage for me. Being kilted is a form of freedom. Not the worst thing in the world to be addicted to, huh?
