First of all, Welcome to our little corner of the web.

Sorry I took so long to find this thread, It must have come up when I was out hob-nobbing in Philly with REAL kiltmakers.

Even in Vielsek you can find a metric/inch tape measure. I happen to know the exchange carries them in the sewing section. If not take a trip to the big exchange in Hanau. The last time I was there they had dozens. Of course the last time I was there I was carrying DM and the wall was still up.

I have my customers measure in inches because most of them are more familiar with that system. Although here in the shop we work to a tollerance of 1/32". (about 1mm)

Use whatever system your kiltmaker prefers. Correct measurements are not the time to rock the boat.

I ship many kilts to APO's. Even one to Vielsek but he's no longer there. It's no harder than shipping to CONUS.

I'd definitely go for measurements in inches as I don't know my measurements in metric, but as others have said best to go for whatever meaurements your chosen kiltmaker uses.

A very warm welcome from sunny Phoenix, AZ from a non-Scottish relative newcomer to the entire kilt experience. I am a Utilikilt guy and I'm wearing it all over the Phoenix area and people don't know quite what to make of it. They aren't rude, they just get this deer-in-the-headlights look and don't quite know how to react.

I thought that I would not wear kilts until much later in life but I was recently divorced, changed careers so I have more money coming in, I'm 51 years old and finally decided heck, what am I waiting for?

So I'm having lots of fun, comfort, and freedom and making some new friends in the process. I'm looking forward to cooler temps in the desert for my nightly kilted walks.

Welcome from Ansbach. The few kilt related things I've ordered have had no problem shipping to an APO. There have been companies for other products whose websites specifically say no shipping to APO. Needless to say, we no longer conduct business with those companies. Going to Austria, just south of Mittenwald GE, for the long weekend and plan on being kilted most of the time. Take care.

    YMOS,
    Tony
