I would HIGHLY recommend USAK. Rocky and Kelly have been very good to me and others on this board, and you can always count on USAK's quality and customer service. I know this echoes many other's sentiments, but you can't recommend USAK enough!

I went with the PV from USAK. I ordered it on the 15th and now I wait. I think the jura will be next. I went with PV because our winters rarely drop lower than freezing with the high rarely below 50 degrees F. And that's only 2months out of the year.

Now, its confirmed I have no patience. I can't wait for it to get here, I even paid the rush fee. Couldn't help it. Rocky has been awesome to deal with, as he has answered my every email. And Kelly was great to talk to when I called with a question. Unbelievable service!

I did order a belt, buckle, and sporran from scottishkilts.net. Don't know how long that will take.

    Thanks for all your advice!

Welcome to the forum. I have one of Rocky's semi=traditionals and it is a fantastic kilt for summer wear. Our climate here in Va is similar to yours. I'd say go with the USA for now, but start saving for a "Tank" now, because you will eventually want one. However, some of the Scottish kilt makers do seem to be able to get around extravigant customs charges by the way they label packages and by use of "The Royal Mail" and the US postal service, rather than a shipping company such as FEDEX or UPS. I believe Kiltstore does this.

    Welcome from the Pacific Northwest.

I echo all those who recommended a USA semi-traditional kilt. I have one as well.

For your next kilt, I would consider talking with Matt...I forget who initially recommended him

Sorry I haven't posted sooner, been out of town for the holidays. My semi-traditional USAK in MacKay tartan came in Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Unbelievable how fast that was! I ordered it in the wee hours of the morning on 11-16-06 and had it by 11-22-06. It's much better than I expected. I'll be recommending USAK to my friends. I am absolutely impressed!

Thanks go to all you guys for helping me decide. Ya'll were absolutely right with Rocky and Kelly. This won't be my last order from them, I got casual I'll be wanting soon.....and a kilt in saffron and one in the Limerick tartan and......

Great mate, I'm glad you got a kilt you are pleased with! I'm hoping to be able to order a semi trad some time next year.
