Turpin,
Let's just say . . .
I'M JEALOUS!!!!!
Now, folks, how do you do eyes?
I need to get some skunk pelt!
I wonder how the fur on the back will fair in the ling run. Most pro- full face sons have leather backs. Is it to economize and leave one half of the pelt for a cantled sporran . . . or will the back fur "wear off?"
I am SO Jealous!!!!
Cheers, cheers for Turpin!!!!

As for measurements, I just took a semi-formal sporran I have and traced the outline of the front and back pieces onto the backing leather I used, cut those out and used them as patterns to trace onto the inside of the pelt. (I did modify the shape of the flap to conform to the shape of the head.) The sporran I used is 7.5 inches at the widest and 6.5 at the opening. I cut the pelt pieces about 1/2-inch larger all around to allow for folding over the backing. I clipped the fur on that 1/2 inch margin with scissors and glued the pelt to the backing. I folded and glued the 1/2 inch of shaved pelt over the backing and then glued black felt onto the inside as a liner. I punched holes about every eighth inch on the front and back for gusset sewing and hand-stitched the gussets with artificial sinew. All-in-all a very satisfying project.
Thank you much. I will certainly be referring back to this thread a few times.
I very much plan to make myself a faced sporran. More over... this will give me an idea on how to do even a non-faced fur sporran.

No worries, Mate. Can fault me for trying, though. Cheers!

oversight
I neglected to mention that after I sewed up the eyes I filled the head with balled up newspaper to dry it into some kind of head shape. The rubber band you see on the second(?) pic above is holding it in place. Next time around I'll find a lighter-weight head fill material and work some eyes into the equation. But at this time taxidermy is beyond me.

I was going to say...if you really wanted to be wicked it'd be wild if you mounted a couple of blinking led's where the eyes were...we have this thing around here somewhere that we got for halloween: two blinking led eyes and a box that has a small digital voice recorder in it...with a full mask sporran and one of these things, the possibilities are endless!
Move over, Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy...it's Turpin and his talking sporran!

Next, I'd like to get one of those cutsie baby-harp-seal stuffed toys from Sea World (you know; the ones with the big, sad eyes?).

Well guys,
I'm planning on a making my own full mask skunk sporran now.
My wife Anna BALKED at the price of a nice one (sorry Mrs. Highlandtide and Matt:fewl: ). (me :crap: )
IF I am going to have a shunk sporran, I HAVE to do it myself. .
I'll make pics for one and all.
Now, to assemble all the pieces . . .
I HAVE to blame this on YOU Turpin!!!!!

Not to threadjack, but I shared with the bride today that I wanted to do this and mentioned this thread. It amazes me how utterly freaked out she is over a masked sporran!
