Same here; my family moved to Ireland from Strathclyde and Ayrshire and found some bonnie lasses to tumble with
I actually am an alcoholic, so I don't touch the stuff anymore, though I dearly miss Guinness Extra Stout and a wee dram o' Irish Whiskey. But the quality of my life is not worth drinking, since I am one of those unlucky enough to have developed addictive behaviours.
Captain: Yes, we'll always have the stupid among us. The good news is that their stupidity is quite entertaining!
Still, it was a rather funny exchange. Some folks tend to automatically assume that if you drink, and happen to be of Irish, Scottish, or even Native American descent that you must be an alcoholic. In the words of comedian Ron White, however, you can't fix stupid.

Just becuase I may be of Irish decent does not mean that I am an alchoholic. And just becuase I enjoy my cups a little too much on occasion does not mean I have a drinking problem. I mean I drink, I get drunk, I fall down, Where's the problem?
