If I keep this up I'll never have any money for my kilts. I've already said that I was going to get the Two Frasers from USAK, I guess Rocky is going to beat me up if I don't come up with the green. I guess I'll have to do some more weddings. Wrk, work, work, and no a tuppence richer...

Jim - tooling leather takes dye so very well, and every PX/NX/MCX I've ever been in sells black dye for boots... so not sure I understand your problem here. Further, I've seen a couple posters here who have used colored pens to great effect - cheap and simple solution.
I'm looking at Lee Valley's (woodworking site) small but powerful (and inexpensive!) rare earth magnets http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.a...=1,42363,42348 for my first sporran project.
In addition, if tooling leather is your passion there are a number of sources available for fantastic desings in this style - George Bain's Celtic Knotwork has to be acknowledged as one of the premier works in this field. Also check out http://www.gallowayglass.com/CELTIC.JPG for some great designs.

Y'know... I never thought of the shoe dyes. I'll have to see if the pathetic exchange at Portsmouth Shipyard has any. It's not exactly well stocked. Though I could probably find some at the Kittery Trading Post.

Beautiful sporrans!
Regarding leather dyes, BLAZN, my local Hobby Lobby carries Fiebing dyes. They are what I use for the leatherwork that I make for reenactors. I finish it with Fiebing's Leather Balm. Is there a Hobby Lobby near you?
I feel inspired. I may have to try my hand at a modern sporran.............

According to Hobby Lobby's web site... they have NOTHING east of Ohio and North of Virginia. None of them in the far western states either.

That whole ordering thing... damages my instant gratification gene. lmao
I'll look into their selection.
