Thanks for all the info - I guess the search now begins for an artist. I appreciate all the help, insight and opinion.

Funny you should mention tattoo. I had the day off because of snow, so I went and got a tat I had been planning on. I have three tats now and I started with my chest, over the heart and it hurt like h-e-double hocky sticks! It is indeed addicting. Now that I have ink on three sides of my bosy, I need one for the fourth side, right?

The ink I got today was artwork drawn by my 19 year old neice that we lost a year ago Jan 2 in an auto accident. Several of us in the family got tats of her doodle work to honor her life. Here's to the memory of Elizabeth Ariel Weedmark.

Very nice tattoo, I cant think of a better reason to get a tattoo than to honor a loved one's life. Good for you.

It's great everyone has an opinion and is of help to some degree or other. But, I've always told clients "this is on you." Of course there are going to be cases where it just "won't work" with the anatomy. But, in your case, both would work swell and are not uncommon places for something like that.

As far as it being "flashy." That's pretty subjective. But, I will say I have seen (and tattooed) plenty 'o crossed flag tattoos. The fact your family crest is the focus + the quote make it a bit more unique.

But, like I said, at the end of the day you and you alone will have to love it or loath it. Good luck in your persuit.

Oh, and dirkskene is a a wise man. DO NOT negotiate, and make sure you tip. "Tattoos hurt; TIPS DON'T!" And as far as the art work: letting the artist draw it will ensure a much better product in the end.

That's a pretty subjective statement.

But, I do agree with the letter he posted. However, some of the statements about Texas laws are a little dated.

As far as fading goes, remember the 4 S's every morning, S**t, Shower, Shave and Sunscreen, told to me by the artist that did my back.

For what it's worth, the red heart you can see in the picture I posted a while back was done February of 2000, and hasn't been touched - I use sunscreen religiously, and seldom expose my tats to sun (I wear a t shirt when swimming).

To be fair I never use sunscreen and my tats are almost twenty years old. When I first got tattooed vibrant colours were not really mainstream. Coloured inks may have been improved over the years for retention. These guys say to use use sun screen and I will agree. Talk to your tattooist he or she is more interested in you getting a tattoo to last, than to just do a crap tattoo for a quick buck.
