With my kilt, I wear my Docs, laced to the top. Remember, the laces should go horizontally, not x pattern. (I was shown this on Oxford Street, London UK when I bought these back in '91).
For more casual attire, I wear Blundstones. I have been wearing them daily for five or six years, and steel-toe for work for three years. The Blunnies are less dressy than the Docs, but more comfortable.
Both are great for dancing, drinking, and general carousing.

You know me better than that I'm not strait-laced. Actually I used to lace my uniform boots like that, until I switched over to Original SWAT. Now they are a comfortable boot, laced at the front and zippered on the side.

I never thought about my Corcoran jump boots. Those have been in storage since I got out of the Army in 94.

Just be careful shining that toe cap... don't need a "mirror-like" shine when you're kilted!

Hmmm... in this weather you can blame shrinkage.

which reflects the trend that in Britain the horizontal lacing is more dominant for all types of shoes with lacing than in other countries.
I agree that the horizontal lacing looks really nice, - and I use that style for numerous of my shoes/bootd - but I don't know if it can be claimed is the "correct way" for everybody..

I don't mean to infer that people have to wear them this way... a lot of people on this site look for the traditional way of wearing things. We tend to wear our kilts as they did/do in Scotland, so I was pointing out the way the Docs were worn in their native land (although they were invented by a German, they were first mass produced in England).
