I've avoided purchasing a UK because I'm in between sizes, and I didn't think UKs adjusted that much. Do I order size 36, 35 or 34? How much adjustment up or down do they have? Well yesterday, I decided to try a 35" black, and went to order one. Out of stock, but they'll let me know when they have one.
For none-freezing-weather casual wear, my four SKs are great. One is cotton twill, and I'd like to compare it with a UK original for daily "muckin' about". As people here have also said, I'm not going to wear a $700 CDN kilt around town for daily wear.... it's my "formal" wear kilt for special functions/events.
My SWK standard is fine, but a little coarser material and heavier than the poly/vis SKs.

Hey Scoutniagra,
One of the joys of my UKs is the flexibility in the waist. I didn't expect it. But be careful to get the models without the double snaps on the waist band.
The models with the double snaps on the waistband are less flexible. Though, a person could leave those waistband snaps undone and get some flexibility.
No clue why, but for the models that are still just the six apron snaps there's room for a couple more inches of waist growth. Remember, they're usually worn under the belly if you got one.
My weight ranges back and forth over a ten pound range and I can still wear my UKs
And, as others have mentioned, if you can get to one of their gig booths you can give them a hands on try.

That's very true. One of the coolest things about the UK is this feature. You set the waist size with your belt.

All UK models are now coming with the snaps (well except the spartan). I'm personally not happy about it either (yes Adam the tireless UK defender just criticized them).

Dang! Sorry to hear that. Good thing I laid in a nice supply of the old ones.
Guess you don't have to snap the waist snaps if you don't wanna, but guess they'd look kinda funny unsnapped...or the belt would grind them into bellyflesh.
I've come to really like my leather UK for the adjustability it offers...though the corset lacing is a bear to alter and they just don't think anyone needs instructions on the corset lacing included with such an expensive product.
As my waistline drifts between high tide and low tide I've had to readjust them laces a bunch.

So, are you saying that the UK Original, isn't adjustable for changes in waist size? I can wear 34" to 36" slacks. I ordered my first two SKs in a L = 36". My third one (the works) is a 34" medium with longer length and it fits me perfectly. My SK hiker is a 36" and it's fine, too (different fit). So, you see, I'm at the large end of a medium, and small end of the large and would need a kilt that has about an inch or so, of adjustability. But it's a mute point 'cause UK doesn't have much stock at the moment.
And no, I don't have a gut to speak of, although, I'm not as trim as I used to be.

Well, if the UK originals have snaps on the waistline now, once they're snapped that's it. My old UK originals and workmans have no waist snaps, only the six on the apron so there's flexibility...But then, I do have a belly. Wear the 40 and 42 UKs.
Would advise against trying to size a UK from an SK...best to follow their directions on the website and adjust from there if necessary if you can't find the real thing in your size to try on.
Think you'll like the UK regardless of style you choose.

I have 5 UK's and I like the kilts a lot, but I am very put off by the tone of thier website and the way they act like they are the only kilt on the market. I also don't like the waist snaps. When my weight stabilizes a bit my next casual kilt will be a Freedom Kilt or a leather R kilt.

I can't imagine a UK with waist snaps... I'm glad I got mine before they changed!

None of mine have 'em - the waist snaps - but, I like the UKs, and I wear a belt with 'em, so why do I have to button em? No one'll see 'em unless I show 'em, and I'll still have beer room.
