I agree, one would think that someone would have advised them the proper way to wear the kilt, but for those intentionally wearing it in a "joke kind of way," they ultimately looked the fool for doing it.
When someone finds themselves in an uncomfortable social situation, it's a common reaction to try and find a way to make light about it; beating others to the punch so to speak. (Ha, ha! I look pretty stupid, don't I! Now you don't have to make fun of me, because I've all ready done it!)
But, when that person is put next to someone who is commited to what they are doing, and displays self confidence about their actions, the person who was trying to "joke it off" looks like a fool. I think even non-kilt wearers watched the guy with the sporran around his neck next to his properly attired co-worker and thought "What the h377 is wrong with him?!?"
Admit it - weren't we all a little uncomfortable the first time we wore a kilt in public?
Personally, I'm not offended at all. Good on them and good on the Glenlivet.

Keep in mind that these are not real people to begin with, they're only on television because they look good on camera. Weathermen/women who have no idea what a weather balloon looks like and Anchormen/women who have never chased down a story in their lives. Consider the source and we can all have a good laugh on them.

AND perhaps most importantly, they're going to do it again on 5 April - there's a registration form where each of us can get pledges from people to sponsor our wearing our kilts to work on 5 April for the Direct Relief International charity!

After all these comments I just wish I could watch the entire video. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, it plays to about halfway through and then freezes! I have tried everything I know to get the remainder to play, but it stops everytime at the same point. Oh, well!
I am rather envious of you guys over there. We do not have a Tartan Day' or a 'Wear a Kilt to Work Day'. On the other hand, for me every day is a 'Wear a Kilt' day because I am retired and can wear just whatever I please!

To raise money for charity perhaps we could sponsor Hamish to wear trousers for a day!

Now, there's a thought! However, I really do not think I could manage to get through a whole day in trousers - not even for the most worthwhile cause.

Well............it was for a good cause, but once again the media made light of a serious subject. And the mini-kilt was an offence to all of us who love the kilt.

The guy with the sporran around his neck did say he didn't know how it was worn. Chances are he got razzed for it and then was, ahem, made an example of. That's just my guess, he probably had more than enough time to correct the blunder.
There were some sharp dressed guys in there, though.

There certainly were some goof balls in there - but there were also some guys that sounded like they really enjoyed the freeedom they experienced.

I really had no problem with it. It's a nice idea for a good cause - no harm, no foul. St. Patrick's day will be on us soon and there are many of us in the area who will be kilted for the parades and then spend our time in various pubs or clubs. We field all sorts of questions and try to promote the kilt. It's always a great time. The video did show a lot of kilts do's and don'ts but I really don't think it was insulting. There may have been a lack of understanding but some of the guys really did a good job of dressing everything up for the day. That said, of course, at least half of them hung well below the knee and that is something I learned was a no-no the first time I came here.
