Just keep the kilt faith. Last week I left Fridays (after having really nice tasting Jack Daniels ribs and shrimp) wearing my Utilikilt survival. I left and a guy said (with an arm around his hot babe) "nice skirt" to me. I didn't really lose it but I said "It's a kilt, and your girlfriend would love for you to wear one. If she says no she is lying and doesn't want to hurt your manhood." I probably got carried away but couldn't help it.

Dread, You're a better man than I am, Gunga Dread.

On the other hand, I do not minimize your desire to be a better man. I applaud your intentions, and I hope you know that a life time of behaviors do not get eradicated easily. You will achieve your goals. I, too, wish to be thought of as thoughtful, wise, and graceful. And--in my better moments--I am.

But it's easy for the Marine in me to come out. Or the vile creature which lurks within. . . .or the demons with which I struggle. . . .or the simple, fallible human being which I am. My mouth can wilt flowers and cause sailors to cover their ears (or ask for lessons).

My mouth can also utter soft words of comfort to a dying brother, coo to a baby, and speak words of kindness to a friend. Or total stranger. I can say that I am sorry and that I care when there is nothing else to say.

And so can yours. So does yours right here--often. Remember the priest's words. You are an interesting and good person to know. So just hang in there, and do what you know is right.

In my lodge, we are just trying to make better men of ourselves.

I think if somebody smarts off like that he invites a parry, if you smile and walk on your the better man, if you offer a comeback you are no less the better man for you are doing what was expected. I usullaly look at them and start laughing, then say you had good opportunity and thats the best you can come up with and invite them to try again. works pretty good. most people don't know how to handle that.

I gotta say, I'm in the same boat as Dread... It wasn't too long ago the wife kept bail money around for when my fists decided to answer goads like that (though they weren't over the kilt... that's a recent phenomena). I too am finding that my mouth now is taking over for my previous physical responses...

But I still agree with the others... that guy deserved it... Of course if he had been wearing jeans you always could have told him that the gold rush was over, so there's no point in wearing miner's pants around...

Dreadbelly is a far better person than I. I wouldn't have felt bad for it in the least. I pride myself on how nice I CAN be, but I'm very quick to retaliate to someone's teasing. I don't walk away expecting that they'll get what's coming to them, I want to SEE it. I don't wait for karma.

I wouldn't worry about it, he asked for it when he opened his mouth. he shouldn't have ran off at the mouth on something he knows nothing about !
