    Like everyone else has basically said, do your research. Any of the makers mentioned, as well as many others will produce a quality product.

    I have to tell you though, your question should really be "Who should I get a kilt from first?" After you've worn a traditional you'll want one from each maker, just to make your collection complete.

    I went with Matt Newsome for my Macneil of Barra tank. It wasn't that Kathy Lare, Barb Tewksbury or other kilt makers could not have provided just as nice a kilt, but I was able to visit Matt at The Tartans Museum gift shop and have him do the measurements for my new kilts, a 9 yard 16oz wool in Macneil of Barra ancient colors. I would advise that whatever kiltmaker you choose, visit them if possible. The colors in a tartan look much different on a computer screen than in person. Here are a couple of pics of my tank. One more thing to add, Matt was cheaper than anything I saw to order directly from Scotland.
