Very enjoyable overview, and I especially liked the conmtrasting historic photos. It gives a reall sense of how our cities have developed over time.

Thanks for an absolutely fascinating and engrossing thread. You have taught us so much about San Diego which we would never have known.

Wow Scott, thank you for sharing that essay. It has been near 30 years since I was in San Diego last. I might have to head back there this fall for a little R&R.

Yes, this is the aspect of San Diego, and of other western communities I suppose, that have such a powerful impact once understood.

In this thread, we visited the Spruce Street suspension footbridge. As a reminder, this is what it looks like now.

But it looked very different at the time of its construction back in 1912. These little images highlight the contrast.

For the most part this illustrates our success in developing this part of the world. In some cases though, lush growth has (in my opinion) unfortunately obscured some of the natural and man-made features that made a location so special. Look for a future posting to illustrate specifically what I mean, but here's a hint.

Thanks everyone for participating in this thread.

What a great pictorial. You should ask that girl out sometime. The only thing I didn't get was that strange garb you were wearing

    Best regards,
