Stagging on is a British term for doing sentry duty, but its also used now as general term for being on duty.

No doubt there is a manual detailing all the required elements of dress for each evolution. British uniforms seem to have a lot more variety than here in the US.
This isn't the full dress but what's called No 2 dress, the Rig with the blue bonnet & hair sporran is called Review Order and is worn on most Parades. The version in the first photo is called Highland Dress and you would probably wear it to a Parade but not on it.

There is a more formal dress called No 1, its the same bottom and Bonnet as with Review Order but with a Green jacket, similar to to a Pipers, red Sash and Steel Scabbard.

Spats can be a pain but it also means you have less of your Brouges to Bull

They do look smart when Pressed and whitened though. They should also be tailored to your legs. Quite often you see bands who havent done this and it looks a bit scruff. If your spats are a good fit you would normally need a button hook to put them on.

Those are killer pics. Thanks for sharing!

I especially like the red tunic/jacket. The British military always has such interesting and lively uniforms.

As for the American military having a kilt option for dress, perhaps someone should suggest it as a way to improve recruiting and morale.

I might have signed up to get to wear a uniform like that.

Thats called Mess Kit, its what we wear to social functions. You can't really see that well on this pic but the tassles on the Sporran are gold wire.

The Jacket is based on the old Red Tunic this one has the buttons would actually button all the way up to the neck with the collar fastering on hooks. I took this jacket to get some stitching repaired about 10 years ago, the seamstress reckoned it was about 80 years old then. It may well see me out

Excellent pics; its great to get taken behind the scenes at Edinburgh Castle and to be able to read posts written from the soldier's perspective.
