I think an Aussie slouch hat works very well with a casual kilted outfit.

As you can see, both WalkerK and myself enjoy a similar style of hat. (Pictures from the Monterey Highland Games, I'm the bottom one.)
Believe what Tilley's website tells you. They are dead on.
Here's my first one:

Alas that one now is lost in the horrendous bowels of Heathrow airport. However I replaced it with an identical one the day after we got back home last month.

I'm without a Tilley now, and it's a thing that needs must be remedied. I wore out two of them in Kazakhstan, '97-99. Great hats, they do float, I like the secret compartment (great place to keep your fishing/hunting license, for instance), very good in the heat and humidity.

Australian Outback, Safari, Hemp, works for me. It's reasonable, cool, shades and I think it looks Sean Connery ish.

Now If you find yourself in Texas, you'll find a cowboy hat, cowboy boots, and a kilt will make you fit in just fine. And if you climb out of your 4x4 pickup truck wearing a Denim Utilikilt with a large Skoal ring in the back pocket, you'll make lots of friends very quickly.

The very basic issue here is that you are developing skin cancer, so protection should be your highest priority, fashion should be a distant second. That being said, the Tilley you show fits the bill nicely. You need the brim for extra shade.

Not to sound redundant, but:
Tilley
I have a Tilley winter fedora as well that is fabulous. They make just a fantastic hat, water-resistant, stain resistant, with a self-flotation device . . .
and you can find them at REI if you have one in your neck of the woods.

For hot weather I am sold on my Tilley Airflo

James M., since you mention general concerns about "ugly salt marks" you'll want to follow the instructions in the owner's manual regarding washing.
Best regards,
Jake

Choosing from among the first three hats is guided by your personal preference. The fourth is protection from the elements when required. I wear a Tilley here in Alaska in the rain and sun, and it protects me from both. I also wore it in the Outback last year in 110° F weather - it was survival equipment there.

I have a boonie hat thats what my dad calls it. The tag says it is a Cotton Nylon Outback hat. I purchased it at Gander Mountain, it has a soft all around brim, and a neck cord,a tightening for the size, and the best part is that there is a mesh Ring around the crown of the hat... than back to a solid top.. It is very comfortable and cooling,,, but ALL WAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN, .
When its hot and sunny out I don't care what i look like, its better to protect yourself than to look cool.
I recently purchased numerous all wide brim hats, and sun hats for my mother who had radiation treatments to her neck and face, and is not to be out in the sun without a brimmed hat.
I have numerous " Farmer Hats", Straw Hats - think Amish brim hats that I wear when working in the yard. I might look geeky while gardening wearing shorts, t-shirts and a large brimmed hat.
