I did the hem with a blind hem attachment to my machine, the rest is handsewn except the primary waistband sewing. I've made a lot of machine sewn kilts and this took longer but it is also an 8 yard tank. I wouldn't want to try to stuff that much material through my machine.

Did ye git aw' that oot o' a book?
Thanks, you made me smile. I've made machine sewn kilts before. I've also taken apart and resized and repaired a few handsewn tanks. I have one of Barb's kilts to look at for reference too. Other than that, it's by the book.

Inspired by your remarkable achievement and armed with my own copy of Barb's Book, I just spoke to Gordon Kirkbright and ordered some Xmarks yardage to try it myself...and may I say that Mr. Kirkbright seems a great guy...those of you who have the opportunity to work with him on a regular basis must enjoy it very much.
Onward!

Another spendid project! I am having my X marks the Scot kilt pleated to the same stripe and your pictures have certainly stepped up my jonesing!

Sounds like you work very fast, it take me about 25-30 hours to hand sew a kilt. Great job!!

On a side note, The Art of Kiltmaking is a lot like a pharmacology text. The first time you read it it doesn't make sense. After a while you learn a new language and get some practical hands on experience. When I went back and read the book it all made perfect sense. The book is written to guide you through the process. Let it!
Well, I now have Barb's book, and I'm reading it through slowly. But I have little confidence in my ability to sew. But I'm learning things!
