Guarantee, ordering a UK in your pant waist size is gonna be too small for sure...way too small...unless you've happened upon some unique honestly sized pant maker...
Only way I'd trust using pants as an indicator is taking a pair of pants that fit well and that you wear low, then measuring them. I doubt the result will match the labeled size.
Don't let your expectations create a problem. Be brave, follow instructions from the manufacturer.

Thats actually what I have done. I followed the instructions with only 1 difference... I had another person measure me.
I'll be damned if I fit into a "husky" 36 with a 42 inch hip line.
just to be sure, I'll order an inch too big and wear a belt. I also am looking at it cut to 21.5 inches because I am a short tubby guy. haha. and my Stillwater is a bit long with the 24 inch anyways.
thanks for all your help!!! I am going to be calling up UK for further questions. and have any of you read their FAQ, its hilarious!

Good show then Casey!
UK is a hilarious company. Check out their old newsletters if you haven't already.

Just for giggles, I just measured my self. My waist measurement is 40.5 right now, but I can still wear my 35 UK's, and the 37 (and 1 36) still fall on my hips (granted these are the old style without the waist snaps).

I've never understood the interest in Utilikilts they always look odd to me, but I am sure that is because most guys I see with them are wearing them so low. I don't think I wear my pants that low, never mind a kilt. They always look as if they are in danger of falling off.

I agree with this, and I like the look of the Buzz Kidder canvas a lot more. perhaps it's all in the number of styles and colors offered. I think the canvas only comes in four or five colors.

Well, they've sold somewhere in the order of 55,000 UKs so they must be doing something right. Besides, Casey was not soliciting opinions as to what forumites thought about UKs in general (its well established on this forum that some members do not care for them) but rather about how to purchase one in the proper size.
Best regards,
Jake

Thanks M@A.
I know that people here are not into the UK, I don't think that they are bad looking, I just simply want something that is still a kilt, but that is not so far traditional. I mainly want it to do some transition into kilt wearing often, its so that people I hang out with don't freak when I go from pants to UK to traditional. people have a feel for whats coming...
the other thing with UK is, they are priced in my range. (senior in high school saving for college range)
thanks for all help!

Hey, Casey. You never have to apologize for liking UKs on this forum. Hamish wears UKs, and you know he's da man.
I understand where your coming from, one of the reasons I like UKs is they bridge the gap from modern western men's wear to traditional kilt, and they are very low-maintenance. Just machine wash on cold, smooth the pleats and hang to dry, or dry on a flat surface. (If you are real ambitious you can add Ron's patented pleat weights.)
Best regards,
Jake

Oops, didn't mean to agree that everyone looked bad in a UK, just that they don't work for me. Wish some of the UK options and so on were put on the Kidders. Hope you find the right fit, good luck.
