Good choice. If you need to outfit your wedding party, there are a few celtic shops in the area that can probably meet your needs. The tea shop at Tower Place Mall will rent kilts, believe it or not, and there's a place on the east side, Celtic Corner, I think it is, that has even more stuff (though I've not been there to see for myself).
Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials.

1. Welcome! from central South Carolina.
2. The thrifty is built just like the economy, as far as the pleats go. Depending on whether it's pleated to stripe or sett, you can handle it the same way. What's the tartan?
You can also hem it, if you're going to keep it. However, be sure you've got it high enough before you try to shorten it. Get it up above the navel, and consider shaping it to your hips in back; it'll probably stay put better.
I find the thrifty is nice just to wrap on around the house, but it can be dressed up, too.

Welcome aboard,
We "big" guys do better with custom hand sewn kiltmakers, or at least kiltmakers like Rocky that will sew to our size rather than off the rack.
But I do think that a lot of REALLY BIG guys look great in Utilikilts...
And wasn't there a kiltmaker around a while back that specialized in big kilts...King Kilts or something like that???
