I'm not sure if you are interested however I have found it so much fun that I have to at least suggest it. Why not see if there are Scottish Country Dance classes in your area, here you would find like minded people, an instant community of Scots for you to join.

it sounds like a lot of fun, but there are no such groups in our area, darn it.

OK Scots
Are you aware that there is a Scottish Club in Tulsa?
http://www.tulsascots.com/alba/
And Scottish Games?
http://www.tulsascottishgames.org/
Tulsa's only an hour and 22 minutes away, according to google maps.
You're also about an hour & a half drive from Ft. Smith, Arkansas, and there is a Scottish Club there -- as a matter of matter of fact, I happen to know one of the Past Presidents -- I'd be happy to put you in touch with him concerning their upcoming events.
You're always welcome here in Springfield at our events as well. We're about 3 hours north as the crow flies.
Other games within a day's drive: Kansas City, MacPherson Kansas, Buffalo, MO, St. Louis, MO, Batesville, Arkansas.
Of course, in the [Cherokee] Nation, you're bound to find someone with Scottish blood -- after all, John Ross, Principal Chief of the Cherokees during the Trail of Tears, had some Scottish blood in him.
Let me know & I'll put you in touch with some folks.
