Red Sea Rig
For an alternative, there's always "Red Sea Rig":

Of course, it depends on if you're going "east of Suez" or to tropical climes. Red Sea Rig is an old Royal Navy custom. I normally wouldn't cite wikipedia, but at least this entry has sources cited:

Really, though -- rental is probably your best option. Don't let anyone disuade you because of their dislike of formal wear; if you feel it is appropriate, then wear what you want.

The reason my PC won't arrive in before I leave is the "special" measurments that I have. I am a "big feller" (size 52 jacket). Over 6' 1" very broad-shouldered. It's the measurement they take from the crown of the shoulder to the wrist that has become my "down-fall" in getting a nice fitting jacket I can use. The 52 is too big and does not fit the way it should. This is why I am having one specially made as a "51" or something like that. Size 50 is too restrictive. I have looked into rentals, a lot of the places near me either have no 52 or and the ones they do fit terribly because of the unusual arm length I have.
Kypnkilt,
What port are you leaving from ???????

Basically, I want to look sharp for this function because I was told that these events are very formal because it is on Christmas Day.
I would not rely on the ship's rentals. They have standard sized tuxedos, and I highly doubt they will have any kilt jackets. A kilt rental shop will be your best bet.

If you have enough lead time, you can rent from these people.

I'm of one mind with Jock on this one. Do the best you can, be happy, be confident, and don't worry about it. You don't hate ties any more than me, or some of the rest of us. And no one on the cruise will say a thing, more likely than not.

Probably wouldn't look right for you, and may not fit (I have my jackets made-to-measure for my weird size) but What Price Glory has replica Ike jackets, RAF battlejackets, and Scottish military jackets. Jerry's down in Cali so close to you...but no clue what the shoulders/sleeves would be for your size.

Those would not be considered formal attire, Ron.

Not a problem... at least not here in Staunton, Va. The local rent-a-tux shop has black mess jackets (like a tail coat without the tail) that they hire out. Looks smart with a kilt, and probably costs a lot less than renting a (arg!!) Prince Charlie coatee.
