    Chris,

It may not be kilt related but you did a champion job on that water car

    Very well done!

    Cheers

I have an old HO Scale freight train I got from Santa when I was a wee bairn (actually it's at my Mom's). It's still in great shape.

I also have a nice collectors Ringling Bros. circus car my Mom gave me when I was in my teens.

Later in life I haven't had a place to set it up. But with our new home, once I finish off the old garage into my shop I have plans (& my daughter is interested too! ).

Amongst those plans is a 1930s style freight (complete with hobos -- I still remember seeing the real deal riding the rails past my Grandparents place back in the early 70's).

My other longtime dream is to recreate the "Orient Express" ala Agatha Christie, complete with mystery scenes inside the coaches

The mystery train might be a tad ambitious, but I definitely plan to do the "hobo" train (in HO scale).

I mentioned in another thread on the subject that a neighbor of mine back in the 70's (an engineer for Boeing) had turned his kitchen into a layout, & he started a model RR club (I had card #1). Back then I use to build WWII tank models & would give the barrels a realistic look by using a candle, as one would writing their name in a cave. He saw this & "borrowed" the technique for his fire train. It was a big hit I'm told at a convention in Seattle (this would've been in 1975/76).

    Anyway, cool stuff
I love seeing other guys RR layouts!

I have quite a bit of equipment but don't really do anything with it anymore. Oddly enough I've been pondering getting out my old Lionel trains from when I was a kid and starting something in "O" scale. As I get older HO and especially N are just too darned fiddley for me. Problem is I don't have room for anything "good" in O.

I need to add on to the house I suppose.

I'm attached to the O scale stuff but not so much the HO and N. Perhaps I should sell it. If you've seen the prices of quality O stuff these days you'll know why.

I suggest looking into narrow guage O scale then. Bachmann makes some excellent equipment in On30 (30" narrow guage track age) which in scale is equivalent to HO scale track.

And since narrow guage equipment was smaller it's easier to model O scale in tighter spaces.

I've got the Suncook Valley RR; "The Blueberry Express" in a back room in the barn. The roof leaked and I've got some major repairs to do. I'm trying not to think about it.

Ditto on the Shay, it's beautiful. They used to run them up country in the White Mts.

Modest indeed, Panache. I think not. The "Welcome" banner totally rocks!

If I was going to get back into modeling, I would join a module club. Building a module seems to be the sane way to go.
