I think I might get one of those boxes before I get a tank... but not saffron because I can't wear that color safely. That is, that color looks ten times brighter on me than most other people and all you see is bright blinding saffron.

Very handsome outfit indeed. The color looks very rich and muted & definitely dresses up nicely with the white shirt and vest.
I attended the Stanford vs. Notre Dame football game early this year and the saffron kilt would have been great. That day, I became a Notre Dame fan.

My understanding is that in Northern Ireland, wearing a saffron kilt is a bit of a political statement which you may not....or may.....wish to make.

Alan,
Please, let's not go there again. Discussing "The Troubles" only leads to troubles...and threads being locked.

I agree!
Celtic Cyclist, instead of discussing this issue further, I suggest that you search the forum for the topic and educate yourself!

As a blanket wearing person, I would say It won't hurt you to take a belted plaid along if you can come up with one. Take the pants too, but a wearable blanket is a very good travel item if you will be doing a little camping or even train riding.

Wow! My mind tangled this thread with that Scotland hiking thread, I'm sorry. I still stand by my belted plaid statement, but for Ireland. My mother, she lived over there for a while, says it can get cold and wet for long streches. She also said, as soon as the sun came back out the men would start taking off their shirts and sun bathing. Hope all goes well, and go with the color that looks best on you. Good luck and have fun.

I have a lot of Irish in my background on my father's side, and I have a saffron kilt on my short list. I like the color -- not bright, but certainly different. To me it makes a statement similar to a tartan, a statement that a green kilt does not.
I do not think there is anything wrong with a green kilt, and I'd wear one if I had it, but I personally would pick the saffron.
