How Do You Fasten the Fly Plaid?

I was advised by the vendor not to pin the brooch through the silk lapel of the prince charlie because the pin could damage it, but that the brooch pin would not damage the thick textile of the tartan fabric.

A magnet is a clever idea! How do you secure the plaid to your jacket? Is there a magnet sown inside the front?
