I don't. Done it about three times in my life. Once, I did get the job, but that was because I was applying @ Utilikilts. The other two times, I got passed over. I am already different enough that I don't need to introduce kilts into the equation. Got fairly long hair, and I'm overweight, so I feel like it's better to be dishonest about my appearance, and get employment. If I get the job and, after a week or so of doing good work for them, I'll ask. Otherwise, I'll keep mum about it, and keep the kilts for off-the-job situations.

When it comes to my freelance computer support and photography businesses, I will wear what I want.

I voted yes. However I would only wear the kilt if I felt it was not going to be an automatic disqualifier. I would have to research a bit. Does the employer have an Equal Opportunity policy? What is the normal dress worn by employees? Is this a company that embraces individuality and diversity?

So, I suppose my answer is actually yes and no, depending on the situation.

I have. I got offered the job. I was told by the interviewer that I was the best dressed person to apply for the job. She also told me that if I had the self respect and confidence to dress that way in a high stress situation, that I was deffinately a person she wanted in her workplace. She couldn't my current employer for compensation, though, so I had to pass.

    Good luck with your interview.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I did not, and have not. However, I mentioned in all my interviews that I will sometimes wear a kilt to work. Since the overwhelming number of job interviews I got in my last go'round were here at Stanford, and since I've been at Stanford for a long time, I knew that it wasn't likely to be much of an issue.

I wore my kilt for an interview for a fire department. Actually, there were two interviews. I was kilted to the first, but was whispered in my ear I might want to wear something different to the Chiefs interview. Still, the chief herd I wore my kilt to the first interview and I was still hired.

Having worked (many years ago) for several years in Human Resources (in my 'past' life) there is no way I'd wear a kilt to a job interview and expect to get hired. The interviewer is, by necessity, super critical; My boss once dismissed a great candidate because he wore a brown belt with black trousers, and had a Stud in his earlobe.

I wore the kilt to my last job interview three and a half years ago, and I still have that job!

It depends on the job. Firefighter or cop? - no. Office work? sure.

Each job applicant must make the individual choice. When I interviewed for my current job, I wore a kilt, and I am still wearing it today........
I should mention that the job I wanted and got was RETIRED!
