I don't know much about trade laws and the bodies that govern them (especially overseas), but it seems that if in fact this store is a Gold Brothers store and if in fact they are deliberately trying to actively conceal this relationship and if in fact they so grossly mark up identical items some kind of fair trade commission or the equivalent would be interested to hear about it.
I know that "buyer beware" is the basic premise, but this seems seriously deceitful, and not at all encouraging to the tourists who later finds that they've been taken.

Fresh from a local scot who recently returned from Edinburgh, he said that 80% of the stores on the Royal Mile are now owned by the Gold Bros. (English, not Scottish), whether or not the make that known. This site clearly has pretty much the same stuff and same pictures of the same stuff, although it appears they have some serious pricing differences from other of their sites like Heritage of Sc******* (even have their company's proprietary tartans named after the store). Unfortunately it is not really illegal to have different businesses selling the same stuff at different prices, especially if they are in different locations. They unfortunately are terrible about customer service issues

Looking at their website with illustrations, copy and range of products obviously being identical to Heritage of Scotland, I feel pretty much sure that the mother company must be the same for both of them; Pride of Scotland’s products being just more expensive. Further, contrary to Heritage of Scotland, Pride of Scotland will only ship free of charge to UK-residents and delivery times are promised to be longer.
Some people shall prefer that, however, making them feel happier with what they get. For a company it is just another way of running a test market, as I see it. If higher prices and inferior customer service should prove successful; why then maintain low prices, fast delivery and worldwide free shipping in Heritage of Scotland?

I don't think that there is a trading law that prevents branches of the same company selling items at different prices. It happens in many other groupings.
There is a way of finding out the owners/directors if Pride of Scotland is a registered company as they all have to furnish such details to Companies House.

Thanks to all.
McClef is right - branches often sell products at different prices - another way to trap consumers!
Tartan Hiker - I think they are deliberately trying to conceal their relationship, and maybe its just becasue Gold Brothers are so notorious and unethical, maybe its a way to rebrand - terrible to think its another way of Gold Brothers to create such illusions.

It is indeed one of theirs as is the 'Heritage of Scotland' chain.
They sell some decent stuff and I have one of their kilts I am happy with for day-to-day wear, but I don't think I'll buy anything more from then now that their tactics have gone so far beyond underhand.
That said, the Pride of Scotland tartan is just a lovely tartan that has nothing to do with them

Yes Arlen is right - even with the more quality stuff every pound they get is a pound denied to more ethical businesses and also helps the GB empire to extend and encroach upon them.
