So even if it is/was a myth, so is Arabian Nights as a theme...you can dress the myth.

You can always go in the Maktoum tartan.

(We actually have a sample of this in our museum, though for years it was mislabelled "MacToum" and no one knew the difference!)

That's pretty darn cool, Matt, though a kilt made in that tartan would be pretty pricey for a one-off event.

I think I'd see if I could find a scimitar pin to use as a kilt pin, maybe on e-Bay. 8)

    Very interesting…

I wonder if I could pull off the arabian look?

Ok, what am I missing? When I went to prom many, many, many, many years ago we had themes, but no one dressed to the theme. The room was decorated for the theme not us. We all just wore tuxes with ruffles to match our dates dress.

Mark is EXACTLY right here, guys...take it from one who has helped put on numerous proms...the theme of the prom IS NOT, I repeat IS NOT how you dress!

For example, "An Evening in Central Park" was a prom theme, but the couples wore the usual formal attire, not running clothes and gym shoes. Sometimes the theme is a song title or a movie, but the theme, as Mark mentioned, is for the decorations...NOT YOUR CLOTHES!!

Trying to do anything in regards to your outfit to fit the Arabian Nights theme
(with the exception of the kilt pin suggestion just for fun) would make you look, well, no other way to say it...just plain "DORKY"! At worst, it could even come off as a racial/ethnic slur...BAD IDEA!!! At best, you'd look like you were at a costume party/Halloween party. I enjoy being pleasently geeky in my own life, but this one is a big "no-no", UNLESS, of course, the ticket specifies that the event requests theme dress.

Agreed. We had "A Knight in Paris" (our mascot was the Knights) and did I walk in with a beret and cigarette holder? Nope. I wore a tuxedo and Chuck Taylors.

Just be sure to get your date a corsage. And don't stick her with the pin. Have fun, be safe. Dont drink and drive. You might hit a bump and spill your drink.
