Women don't have the sporran in front. I make no effort to keep my knees together. But, notice how the officers sit in the lounge when taking tea in "Tunes of Glory".

Actually, I just watched that again about a week or two ago. At least one of the officers in the lounge is sitting with his legs crossed.

Exactly. A few of us were sitting around a table at a kilt night a few months ago. A lady at the bar said, "I hope they're sitting like ladies." I turned and said, "No, we're sitting like kilted men." "How's that?" she asked, so I spun my chair around and showed her. It was pretty much like Jay's example. Jay may have been there, now that I think about it.

I had to learn how to sit in a skirt! The problem for me wasn't the apron---it was the pleats. Until I learned how to do a good pleat sweep, I sometimes ended up with them behind me on the chair, instead of under me on the chair.

I've pulled that. My mom teased me about not sitting like a lady... so I crossed my legs. And we all know what happened when I did that! She hasn't asked me to sit like a lady since...
