sporran closure

I love magnetic closures. I wish all of my sporrans had magnetic snaps. And, as said before, the magnet won't hurt anything. FAR too weak.

Never thought of it before. One of the sporrans i made, the semi-dress kangaroo fur one has a magnetic closure.

I was contemplating using one and then reconsidered when I got to thinking about the effect a magnet might have on a credit card or a cell phone or something like that--especially when I thought about using a rare earth magnet.

Mythbusters says that credit cards can't be ruined by magnets like that.

I just made my first sporran and had trouble with the closure, I like the idea of a magnet. I'm not sure if it'd hurt cell phones or not... hmm...

The consensus seems to be that credit cards are safe from magnetic closures. What about iPhones, Treos, BlackBerrys or other smartphones? Has anyone noticed damage to these, perhaps to screen pixels, if not to device memory?

EDIT: I just realized this thread is in the DIY sub-forum. This question was addressed a couple of years ago in the Accessories sub-forum. No help there for my specific concern, though.
