    Yes, the "Basting stitches" are to be carefully removed. They just hold the pleats together while the kilt is in the mail package. My very first Kilt arrived with no instructions and I did not know what to do about those stitches. Searching the web, I found this Xmarks site, and found out what to do.
    Glad to see I was not the only one.
