And that is "Bear Tartan" at http://www.beartartan.com/ not to be confused with "Bear Kilts" at http://www.bearkilts.com/.
But I suppose Bear could make you a Bear Tartan kilt!!!

Yes, now that they will sell you the yardage. When I first came upon their product, it was the finished kilt only. Alas, now the exchange rate has made this one out of reach for me now.

Rabble,
This thread was recently removed from the live forum due to a post violating several of our forum rules. There is no need to be more specific than that. Seeing that we all agreed to the forum rules upon joining, we should all know what we should or should not post.
This thread is about tartan; period. Let's keep it that way or the thread will be pulled once again and will not come back.
I think this snippet from the original post says it all:
designed by a couple guys in Sweeden to represent dignity and respect
Let's keep those ideals in mind.

Thanks for the moderating moderators.
Frustrating, but understandable, that the STA swatch is copyrighted and can't be copied and posted to this thread.
Question now is what fabrics does Marton Mills plan to offer this tartan in and PULEEZE, PULEEZE, PULEEZE let one of them be poly viscose so Rocky can order up a bunch of it and get rich selling this lovely tartan to folks who believe in dignity and respect for all people or just plain like the way the colors of the tartan are woven together.
The rainbow is a core symbol of the Navajo Nation too and who knows, maybe kilts will catch on here in the rezlands.
I'm gonna go over to STA now and have another peek at the full screen swatch...wish list, wish list...where'd I put my wish list....
Ron
Okay, I'm back. Been staring at the full page of this tartan. On one hand its beautiful just as it is so pleated to the sett would look great. But with all the varied colors of the vertical stripes in the tartan I'm guessing if one had an actual swatch of this tartan to play with it could be pleated to stripe to show any one of the colors as the main color on the backside.
I'm guessing the decision making on how to pleat this tartan is gonna make a final decision on pleating very difficult for a lot of us.
While the swatch is copyright and can't be copied I was able to pick it up with the print screen function, paste it to Word, then copy it and paste it to an email to myself. Then when my email arrived I was able to save picture to my wish list. That's just a reminder for me - personal use - so hope that's okay. The process did shrink the pic a bunch so when I'm ponduring the possibilities I go back to the STA site and enlarge their swatch.
Tell you what, I'm really impressed with this tartan designers' talents. Hope its woven up soon.

It's neat that the Tartan of Pride is out there, but once again, it is one I couldn't pull off. Rex mentioned a muted or weathered version, but commented on the unfortunate connotations of using those terms with the name "Pride." What about an Ancient Pride? That might be toned down enough in color that I would wear it. But I ain't holdin' my breath. One of the reasons I never wore the Rainbow rings I used to have are that I just am not one who can pull off a lot of bright color. Whoever is the first to get a kilt in this Tartan is proud indeed. It's a nice tartan. I don't think I would pleat it to the stripe though. I think that you could end up with what one of the kiltmakers around here (honestly, I think it was Barb T. but I'm not sure) called "lawn chair butt" pretty easily with this one.
Thanks for the heads up Ron!

I really like the Bear tartan too!
I do, too. I hope they offer it in PV soon at a more affordable price. I've already got a lot of shirts with that palette, so all I need is the kilt for a coordinated ensemble!

Yes, the Bear tartan sounds like a very nicely designed tartan. I'm still looking into who the kiltmakers are at that link... I would like reviews of the kilts being offered and so on. I'm considering that tartan for my second traditional in the future. Probably end up writing directly to the organization offering them for information.

When I first discovered the Bear Tartan website in 2006 (I think it was), I corresponded with the owners and peppered them with what probably turned out to be way too many questions. I had the same concerns about who was making their kilts, and they took a little offense that I should even ask. But they showed me photos of the inside of the kilt and assured me that the kilts were made locally by someone they knew, but wouldn't identify. At the time they did not offer the tartan by the yard, citing the need to change their website to allow it. Since then they've changed their policy for people like me who'd prefer to work with their own kiltmakers.
As best as I can figure, they're not an organization, but just a couple of guys who designed and copyrighted a niche tartan in part for their pride in the community, and in other part to make a wee bit of cash (I suspect not much) that they use to keep their venture going.
Regards,
Rex.
