I usually tell people I'm from Cocoa, FL. Then they ask where my dad's from... I give 'em the same answer.

About two years ago, in Sonora Texas (if anyone knows where THAT is! lol) a lady working the desk at a hotel asked "Are you from Germany?" I was floored. I looked at my wife who immediately turned and walked away to keep from laughing. I just said "nope, I'm American" smiled and walked away.
I've stopped counting the number of times I've been asked if I was English when I'm wearing my kilt. Usually this is by people of Asian ancestry. Every once in a while I get asked if I'm Irish. Probably because I have red hair.
While I was wearing my khaki kilt, I was asked if I was Irish (I'm Asian).
"Indeed I am. I am a pole vaulter, it's a bit tricky wearing the kilt let me tell you.... WAIT A MINUTE! WHAT DAY IS IT! (Check your watch) OH MY GOSH THE DATE! I CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT...THE DATE! ...THE SCOTTISH OLYMPIC COMMITTEE WILL KILL ME... GOTTA GO! (race out the door)
