pleased with the sentiment
A long time ago, I was in Marine Corps Jr. ROTC; I chose not to follow that path, but still have a spot in my soul that identifies with the Corps. I am gratified by the sentiment of those members of the Corps that if we wear with pride, it's okay for non-servers to wear Leatherneck. It's on my long term wish list.

Well, technically the "service tartans" aren't official components of any US military uniform. I am a veteran of the US Navy and I feel that anyone can wear the "service tartans", provided they are worn with respect.. I think it's a great way to show your support.

I echo the sentiments of all my veteran-brothers! Wear a service kilt with pride, and when asked, let them know your are a contractor supporting that branch of service! As a Navy Corpsman (8404), I was asked if I owned a Leatherneck Tartan. My reply was no, that I was Navy not Marine. The person who asked me, was a former Top of mine (2d Marines), and he told me "Dangit (paraphrased) Doc, do I have to take you the store myself?" I figured that was invite enough to wear it with pride.
Besides, my tours with the Corps were the ultimate BEST duties I ever had. I'm sure glad the second half of my career I volunteered to go "green-side"! My only regret, is that I didn't do it from the beginning!!!!!!

King Arthur's Excalibur sword is the symbol for our project. It would be a nice look to have a replica of that as a kilt pin!!
So now that I know it's okay to wear service tartans respectfully and with pride, I have another problem. Our product is currently in use by both the Army and Marines. Do I get two kilts? Do I wear Army in the front and Marines in the back, or vice versa. Or maybe get a khaki kilt and have the Marine corps emblem embroidered on one hip and the Army emblem embroidered on the other hip. Soooooooo many options.
I've learned a lot from this thread, thanks to you all

Sounds like justification to get two kilts to me.

This ex-artilleryman (from the FADAC days ) says go for it! The US Army tartan is sweet (even though it has no artillery red, for shame!)....

Go for it!
As a U.S. Navy officer, I would be honored to see you in a U.S. military tartan kilt for the contributions you have made to our service members. Wear it proudly. You have my support!

Also ex Navy officer, you have my support too. I remember WWII all too well (I was too young to be in it, though) and the whole idea of team that permeated our neighborhood and city. Gopherit!

As I cast my mind back across the variations of this discussion I've seen over the last year or so, I can recall only one person who voiced the contrary opinion -- that service tartans were for those who served, and others should leave them alone. Personally (as, of course, I've already stated) I think ordinance and systems creators are definitely part of the team... what would I have done in Gulf Wars Episode One without the folks at Sikorsky who built my SH-60C, the folks at Newport News Shipbuilding who built CVN-72, or any of the folks who made the medical equipment in my packs?
