Both kilt style have their advantages. If you like the "swish", probably knife-pleats are for you. Box-pleats have an even weight all the way around as opposed to the back-heavy knife pleats (in a larger yardage kilt)

From the Cape Fear Valley, NC I prefer the knife pleat if at all possible. If the wool is too itchy, a longer shirt tail will help. If you don't have the means of making the shirt, take two shirts and extend the tail with material from the other. I have the same problem. and that is what I did I
