I took a trip to Target this afternoon and found no herringbone vests at all. Blast!!! I noticed that most of the menswear stock still looked like warm weather stuff. I'm going to assume that the fall/winter line hasn't arrived yet at my local store. I'll have to wait a week or so and try again.

They're cheap, reasonably well made, readily available, look good, and could easily be modified for kilt wear. That's why.
Where else are you going to get a fully lined wool/viscose vest for $25?

That says it all for me. I have to admit I don't think I've ever purchased an article of clothing from Target in my life (usually just stick to DVDs) but the price of that vest is fantastic.

I stopped by Target yesterday to pick up a bottle of Ibuprofen and saw that they had added a line of tweed vests and even a very nice pinstripe vest to go with one of their suits. Can a comeback for pocketwatches be far behind?

Well some of you will figure out how I got these, but here are the DPCI #'s (product numbers for Target) on these Merona brand vests.
Merona
Brown Herringbone
042-04-0831 (S)
042-04-0832 (M)
042-04-0833 (L)
042-04-0834 (XL)
Merona
Charcoal Herringbone
042-04-0853 (S)
042-04-0854 (M)

They just came out, so they are out of stock online. Target holds items for 24hrs.

You can use them to locate the product more efficiently at a store (over the phone) or on the website. Let's say there is no store in your county. You call a store in a neighboring county and describe the product over the phone and inform them you have a "DPCI #". This way they don't pull the Converse vests instead, you want the Merona brand.

I scored a charcoal herringbone tweed vest in XL that fits perfectly at my local Target. They also had the brown herringbone and the tweed/pinstripe ones in stock AND a fairly decent plain black vest as well. I ALMOST bought two vests, but restrained myself.
They really look quite nice, though the pockets are ersatz.

Excellent. Thanks for the info. That will definitely save me some needless burning of overpriced fossil fuel.
