Halloween kilt
Dropping by a Halloween store this evening to scout pumpkin-carving kits, Wife spotted a Highland costume. Oh, it was BAD.
Bonnet, shirt, whisky holder sporran and kilt skirt. Yes, kilt skirt. It looked like my fears of a Wal-Mart kilt outfit.
I guess I felt rueful.

I don't believe so. St. John Ogilvie was the last Scottish canonized saint, and I'm pretty certain he didn't wear a kilt.

Personally, I would never wear a kilt to a Halloween party or any costume event. I wear a kilt to show pride in my Scottish ancestry and heritage. I feel that wearing a kilt as a costume does not communicate this.

So I should wear pants on Halloween? Heck no. That's the only question that matters to me.

How about historic "costume," as Jay suggests? This is how I would wear a kilt on Halloween:
