Presently, 2. SWK cargo, and a semi-formal from USAK. Actually I have 2 more- black and brown SWK economy(S) currently wrapped a Christmas gifts for my sons. On my wish list is a formal sporran when budget permits.

So, what is the minimum? I would say, one brown day wear, one black day/evening wear, and one dress sporran.
Guess I need at least one more...
BTW, I was corrected on how to pronounce sporran by a good scottish lass. I was using the english spore-anne. Is the correct pronounciation spar-un or spar-run?

The minimum would be one if you choose right.
A raccoon, skunk, or badger full mask sporran is approriate with all levels of dress.
The Fergusson Brit sporrans (with their leather cantles) according to Matt Newsome are also appropriate with any kilted outfit (but will only go with one color of leathers)
This is why I said if I could only have two it would be my Freelander and Fergusson Brit. The black/ brown Freelander covers all daywear needs and the Ferguusson Brit is for dressing up.

Ted Crocker was told formal requires fur or horse hair with metal cantal, end of story, everyone else is wrong. Ted Crocker has a link to the thread and or post.
Ted Crocker doesn't feel comfortable about that, but Ted Crocker will probably never attend a black tie event.

Very interesting thread
My first was a black semi-dress (leather with a silvered metal flap knot), with tassles
Second was an economy brown with tassles. I added a Royal Engineers cap badge (I was in the US Army Engineers)
Then I got started making my own, mostly because I didn't lilke the tassles banging around and also because I wanted to take up leather work again.
Third was my first attempt, seen here:
Currently I have the following:

Recently I bought a dress sporran, white fur with 3 black tassles, but I don't have a picture yet.
That makes seven if I count correctly. I'm thinking of making two more for myself, another black with a rampant lion, and I need a black with a welsh dragon like this one but in red:

I don't think I'm up to the skill level of some others like Donnie, Turpin or Freelander, but I'm very pleased with how the last one turned out. I've made about 30 so far. Given away several as gifts and sold some. I'm not trying to compete with the X marks sponsors. It's just a hobby for me.
There are a lot of super designs out there that I would like to try, but I decline to use images that are copyrighted for items for sale. I do make up some things on scrap leather just to see how they turn out.
I hope this thread continues. There is a lot of nice work out there.

Oh, I don't know, Turpin - only my top three get regular use these days.

Don't sell yourself short, Tom. Your tooling work is very masterful and looks like it's getting more intricate and accomplished every time I see a new one. Me, I just cut, glue, punch, and sew. I'm afeard of the tooling stuff.

I agree with Ted: accessorise! accessorise! Especially if you wear only one or two tartans.
Anyway, I have lost count, but at least two good evening sporrans: one L&M and one clan crest. A load of cheapies from eBay that I jazzed up with new cantles: probably 6 of those. 8 day sporrans: one thorfinn and one Wyvern leather works.
I should get up there and count the things someday.
the only thing I know I have more of is sgian dubh! about 20 of those. Again, I've got to get a count of those.
