Sorry if my post sounded like a brag. That wasn't my intention. Your pics reminded me of the hike I mentioned. And it was only about 70 miles
That said, if you and your wife do a lot of high Sierra hiking I'd highly recommend the hike from the dirt parking lot at the end of the road at Mammoth Lakes up to the Ritter Range--I can't remember the trail name, but it's well traveled. It's a steep hump up the hill, and only doable comfortably as an over-nighter, but well worth the work.

Surer, I know that walk...hike up to Shadow Lake, and then the Minarets just open up as you come up to lake level from below. It's one of the most spectacular 3-4 minutes in Sierra Hiking, period. I recommend this walk to friends going to Mammoth, all the time!

That's it! Then the real treat is to carry on and get up above the tree line. Lots of small, deep blue lakes and amazing rock formations. I've been up there several times camping for a couple of nights and taking some amazing day hikes. Very beautiful place!

Great photos Alan. I used to go to Strawberry every year. Fishing in the summer and taking the family to play in the snow in the winter.
