Like Panache, I recommend a good pair of kilt hose instead of soccer socks. A button down shirt with a sweater vest would look very nice.

I think you would do well with a kilt and sweater combination here I am with a Arran Sweater and my MacDonald of Sleat, I agree with Panache that for a Christmas outfit I'd go for kilt hose, you can get Hawick hose from the Scottish Tartan Museum and Pete at Canadian Casual Kilts has the Hawick Argyll top hose I am wearing in the picture.
