That's why I wear a black flat cap as my 'go to' cap.

I don't subscribe to the logic that a peaked hat does not look appropriate with Highland dress, as the Highland bonnet of old was often worn pulled forward to create just such a peak.

I am afraid I have found that the flat cap looks wrong when worn with a kilt to the eyes of the Scots on the forum whether it was worn historically or not. I have sensed that it looks very wrong to them...
Because of this, I have stopped wearing flat caps with the kilt.
Here is a picture that McMurdo posted. Look @ the Gent in the back row & his "flat Cap.

Well done Ted you have the message loud and clear and this pre WW1 photo is not in the least bit unusual with the flat cap and kilt. Kilted pictures, post WW1 with flat cap are uncommon. Why the fashion changed I know not. All I can say is, it is not the fashion now-----thank goodness.

I didn't fully... understand at first, Jock Scot, but I do now. Thanks for your patience.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Does anyone else realize just who is in this picture?
That would be King George V and Queen Mary. (Now why in the world would he wear a sporran and what looks like black trousers?)
I would assume the kid wearing the horsehair sporran is the future Edward VIII and the one sitting and not happy (premonitions of what's to come?) is the future George VI.
No offense to those of you who do not favor the Flat Cap with a kilt but you really can't get more fashion forward than Royalty. It may not be the fashion of the day but er...what the heck.
(I will also at some point re-post some pics of me on a Ferintosh pub crawl wearing a kilt and flat cap.)
Sorry all....but I AM an American and I do have a bit of the tacky in me. )
