Disclaimer: I have never seen a real live doublet, only in photos. I don't have one.
In the last photo of the Kenmore, the belt is worn over and outside the doublet. Is that correct? The Montrose is pictured with a belt, but I thought that shouldn't wear a belt with formal wear? Or is it that one shouldn't wear a belt with a vest, such as a regulation doublet or PC?

The Montrose is worn with the belt on the outside, there are belt loops for that purpose. As for the belt you do not wear a belt with a waistcoat.

Traditional Gentlemen~ I'm sorry, but the lace kills me! Maybe I'm insecure, maybe I just don't care for lace. The jackets are gorgeous, though.

Regulation Doublet
(That's only because there was no 'Black Argyll w/ waistcoat' option)

I voted for the Sheriffmuir, mainly because I think it is the most practical and versatile of the doublets -
and it is also the most "forgiving" when it comes to an expanding waistline (like mine).
It also looks OK "dressed-down" a bit if you don't want the whole lacey jabot and cuffs look and don't stretch to a waistcoat just yet here it is with a bow tie -
My next favourite is the Kenmore (my tailors call this a Montrose) in blue velvet and can be worn with a jabot or a bow tie like this -
and finally my least favourite is the Montrose. This is mine in green velvet. It is a most unforgiving jacket, can't be worn unbuttoned and if you could see the lining after many years of sweating in it you would realise why. Of course it was designed to be worn before the days of central heating -
I don't like the lace cuffs, just as a personal thing. I find them fussy and a nuisance, liable to catch on things such as buttons and jewellery, and prone to dipping into soup and whatever else you are eating.
This is the Kenmore once again, this time with a jabot -
I prefer to wear the belt underneath it to save the velvet from damage.

I prefer a pc to a doublet. If I had to choose a doublet, it would be the Regulation doublet.

I am going to have to say the Sherrifmuir. I am keeping in mind Phil's wise words here about the heat. Also as I understand it is not obligitory that one wear jacobite lace and cuffs with the Sherrifmuir which give some options. I might have gone for the Regulation doublet, but I can't say I am a fan of bowties.
Also I would like to bring quick attention to this doublet (or at least that is what the site calls it) http://www.highlandclans.co.uk/Appin_Kilt_Doublet.html

I would have to admit sir, that yours is one of my favorite doublets. Though the one listed on the website is the only one I have found so far and it would break the bank in my opinion.
