I am now in a dilemma though as my lovely wife has just tried it on and it seems to fit like it was made for her so it is now HER kilt and no longer MY kilt. After several hours of negotiation it transpires the Kilt is hers but I can wear it sometimes... And then only if it works with the kilt strap extenders... An' if not chubby!! See ya!!

    Don't you just love women!!

Maybe she'll be joining the forum soon... who knows. It does fit her perfectly though. Damndamndamndamndamn...

As the Aussies would say: "You beauty!"

Several years ago I attempted to trade one of my US National Park Service "Smokey Bear" (Lemon Squeezer) hats for an Australian slouch hat -- one of our former rangers worked for the US Army and had an Australian officer in his class, but we were never able to complete the deal, more's the pity.

    Regards,

    Todd

Right then, so here's the rub... Strap extensions arrived in the post today and now matter how you cut it, this kilt was not made to be worn by me. It's too small around and too long in length. I appreciate the military rise but with the extensions it just looks silly. Must have been made for a very slim and lanky soldier indeed.

It would require radical alteration to make it fit and I think it's best left as it is... I am gutted!!

However on a brighter note. My lovely wife is over the moon. It fits her perfectly around the middle and drops to about mid calf which is about the right length for her she say's. It really does look great on her so it looks like she's going to be the wearer not I.

    As I said... Gutted!!

The slouch hat/kilt combo, to me, looks... absolutely awesome! Am I lame?

I personally think it's a neat twist, and somewhat authentic, as a number of the Highland regiments in the Boer War in South Africa wore slouch hats with their kilts, but notice the comment directly below the photo.

Here is a photo of the Highland Light Infantry at the Battle of Magersfontein:

Trefor had some photos posted at one time of a Boer War monument with a Highlander in a kilt and slouch hat.

It is a striking Tartan, although not to my taste, so when do we get to see it on her?

and picking nits, i did notice the the kilt straps don't match the tartan they are off center and the wrong color stripe but probably not noticeable when worn.

Now after you feed and clothe the little ones you'll have save up to get one for yourself

    Hello,
That is a wonderful kilt and story you shared. Too bad it didn't work out for you on the size. At least your wife will be able to wear it.
