The Gold Bros. were recently busted for producing and selling the Isle of Skye tartan without permission. Their cloth was woven in either China or Pakistan, I cannot remember which. May be the same place that is producing the cloth for Frugal Corner.

Gold Bros. has a reputation for producing and selling copyrighted proprietary tartans without permission, including Lady Diana.

In the case of Frugal Corner, calling the design by a different name doesn't make it any less of a copyright violation.

I wouldn't support businesses that exhibit illegal and/or unethical practices, no matter how cheap their product.

Which does remind me, I've lost the information for the vendors which are allowed to sell Lady Diana.

That might be a good idea in general, making it known where one can get the proper source for these materials. I know IOS is Rocky, correct?

Rocky is a retailor, not a producer. Usually it is more of a question of why produces the fabric, not who retails it (unless the retailor has had it produced somewhere just for them, or the retailor is buying their goods knowingly from a producer who does not have the rights).

In the case of Isle of Skye, Lochcarron has the rights to produce it in wool, and Marton Mills has the rights to produce it in PV. So any retailor that carries Lochcarron or Marton Mills products can supply it.

If your question is where to buy a PV kilt made from IOS by someone who has paid the royalties to Rosemary, then the answer is as Matt said... any comany that gets their cloth from Marton Mills. In the case of PV, the 3 companies who post on Xmarks who get their material there are Canadian Casual kilts, Freedom Kilts and USA Kilts. In the case of Wool, pretty much all of the kiltmakers who post up here can get it from either one of those mills.

Well said. In my mind, it would be like buying a knock off 'gucci handbag'. It's just a cheap look alike (sort of) of the real thing.

I’m the X-Marker who suggested the name change.
Below is another photo (a scan actually) of the FC Bright Skye.
It is "close" to IoS only in subdued lighting, such as twilight or low pub light or lantern or campfire light (just don't get too close to the campfire!)
For comprison, the authentic blended and subdued colors of the IoS by USAK in PV also "dim themselves" in low light. The purple/violet and the dark red in the center of the square become indistinguishable.
