Thanks for the input and assistance guys, but I've checked everywhere I can on the HOE website and as far as I can see I will not be able to have my new kilt and my wife's sash matching in Drummond of Perth Modern.
The heavyweight Drummond of Perth is listed as HW1678 Modern, while MW1210 Muted is given for the mediumweight sash material. Modern and Muted tartans are far different from what I can see.
If we cannot have the items to match, which is not surely an unusual request, we'll need to think about a different Drummond tartan which does, which rules out HOE.
So, the order for two jackets and waistcoats, (PC and Crail) one kilt with flashes and a sash will likely be going elsewhere, just because HOE cannot clarify the stuation or take an order over the phone when their webpage is so vague.
I've emailed them again tonight, but truth be told, I reckon I'll not be much further forward by this time tomorrow.
Is it just the tartan I chose, or has any other tartan presented such a difficulty?

I really wish I could keep my mouth shut (as do all of you, I'm sure).
I don't think it has a blessed thing to do with you or your tartan or the actual product. I just think it's a poorly run business that underestimates the value of customer service and overestimates how much cr@p people will put up with to say they have a House of Edgar kilt.
Why, a child of five could understand this. Quick -- someone fetch me a child of five!

The only Drummond they list as having both 16 and 13 oz fabric in modern from House of Edgar is the Drummond of Perth Modern, which only comes in single width fabric in the Old and Rare series.
I have a traditional, 8 yard Drummond kilt; the material was made by House of Edgar. However... it's listed by them as GRANT. The Drummond tartan (the one traditionally worn by most Drummonds; i.e, not the Perth tartan) is the same as the Grant tartan. The label may say "Grant," but take the label off and it magically becomes a Drummond tartan.

I have one kilt from House of Edgar fabric. Kathy Lare hand sewed it from their 13 ounce Cameron Black and Red from their old and rare collection. I'm very pleased with it.
As oft mentioned before I firmly believe in dealing direct with a kiltmaker rather than having a middleman arrange the kilt making. Saves money, time, and errors. Kathy ordered in the material she needed for my kilt from House of Edgar.
When I recently ordered a made-to-measure PC through her she started off with House of Edgar than switched to Lochcarron because House of Edgar no longer offers made-to-measure jackets. She noted that they seem to be offering less and less of late, but was not specific.

Scotus
One page two in the middle his post specifies Drummond of Perth which by my eye is not the same as standard Drummond or Grant.
Best bet Highlander is to get samples from Scotweb, make sure they match enough for your tastes, then order your kilt and sash made from that tartan by whomever you deem best for you. Does NOT sound like HoE is doing much for your business. Bypass the headaches and move on.

This is true, but when he mentioned "Drummond Modern tartan," this usually refers to what is the same as Grant. If he wanted to get his wife a tartan in Drummond Modern, I don't think this would necessarily be a bad idea. Often times the husband will wear one of the clan tartans and the wife might wear a sash in yet another tartan of that same clan.
But a lot of the advice that has been given here has also be good.

This in this morning more or less says it all,
"In our Medium Weight Clans section:
MW1210 Drummond of Perth Muted
In our Medium Weight Old & Rare section:
MWS2087 Drummond of Perth Ancient
MWS2088 Drummond of Perth Modern
In our Heavyweight section:HW1687 Drummond of Perth Modern
Kilts can be made in either Medium Weight or Heavyweight. Sashes are
only available in Medium Weight.
Because a different quality of yarn is used for Medium Weight and
Heavyweight, the colours and sett size can vary between the same tartan
in the two qualities. The sett size for the Heavyweight Drummond of
Perth Modern is 19.1cm and the sett size for the Medium Weight Drummond
of Perth Modern is 17cm. The colours too are slightly different. If you
want to check them for yourself, you can order swatches on
www.tartankilts.com.
Another option you may want to consider is to order a length of the
Heavyweight Drummond of Perth Modern and have it made into a sash for
your wife, but please be aware that we do not recommend Heavyweight for
ladies' sashes because it is quite heavy.
The simplest solution would be for you to order your kilt and the sash
in Medium Weight Drummond of Perth Modern.
I trust this clarifies the situation for you."
Yep, clear as a bell; shop elsewhere!
